Safety Plan
What's a safety plan?
A safety plan is a practical plan to help you stay safe and lower the risk of being hurt by your abuser. The plan will include specific information to help you know what to do and who to contact when needed. The safety plan looks at any risks you are facing, your physical and emotional needs and supports you to make choices to keep you from serious harm. Speak with at least one professional in your life who you trust that can help you with the plan, as they will be an important part of it and need to be aware of it and the support that you need.
Why do I need a safety plan?
Because you are important and it’s important to keep you safe. Everyone, including you, deserves a relationship that is healthy, safe and supportive. If you are in a relationship that is abusive a safety plan can reduce the risk of harm. It also gives you space and a chance to reflect of the relationship, what you want, whether you want to end it and how to keep you as safe as possible. Remember you cannot control your partner but you can take control of your wellbeing.
